Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional 1z0-146
I took Oracle beta 1z1-146 exam in the end of January, 2009. Several days ago I checked prometric.com and discovered that this exam was passed. Now I’m one of the first Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional all over the world!!! it’s my second OCP :)

I did not find any dumps, any mock exams or any sample questions, while I was preparing for this exam. I used only these http://rapidshare.com/files/127182353/D52601GC10_netbks.com.rar official Oracle preparation slides (remember to switch comments – it’s a book). 1z1-146 exam was really tough. 165 questions in 180 minutes. Production exam requirements: time – 90 min, questions – 68. There is a difference, is not it?
If you are going to take one of Oracle beta exams and you have time and ability to stay calm, you are not interested to economize some money I suggest waiting for a production one. Pluses: 1) You will probably get results two weeks earlier then beta-takers 2) More time, less questions 3) It’s not so stressful 4) The probability to pass is much higher.
Do you agree? What is your experience in taking certification exams? :)

Hi, Roman!
I’ve successfuly passed this exam last week. The exam wasn’t too difficult, although I’ve spent all the time for questions and had an only second left for review. So, no review, as a result, ;-) and 87% grade.
Using the materials on the link provided above has helped greatly! That is for sure, thanks for the blog, URL link and an email response for the question types!!!
I’ve also used the equivalent materials from the course 10g: Advanced PL/SQL and OTN materials, in major. Those Articles by Sushma Jagannath on 11g contain some sample questions, so that was also taken for preparation. Most of the questions had a prompt to chose 2 aswers of 4-5, the rest contained “choose all that apply”, 1 or 3, etc.
Tha “accurate knowledge”, as you’ve said, was really in a need! I hate those questions about DBMS_ASSERT!
As for you question for our experience, I’ve successfuly passed the following exams in the direct order: 1Z0-007, 1Z0-147, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-146.
So I’m one of those OCEs and new PL/SQL OCPs now!
Thanks a lot and good luck!
Also good luck for everyone who is reading this now!

@Abhishek,
Hi! Actually I didn’t find any dumps for this exam. I only used the materials, linked above and some articles from OTN, that happily contained some sample questions (please, see my initial response above).
Good luck passing this exam!

@raj,
Hi! As for study materials, please, see my responses above.
Some words how you should face the exam: prepare carefully and pay attention to details (as rdrapeko says). I have spent a lot of preparation time for various subrogram compilation options (PLSCOPE_SETTINGS, PLSQL_OPTIMIZE_LEVEL, PLSQL_WARNINGS, etc.), code analysis and SQL-injections – and that was not a waste time. Do not ignore your own or company’s 11g RDBMS installation and experience with it. Anyway, it is more interesting, than 10g, for sure! ;-) Also read as many articles on either 10g or 11g performance, as you can find (OTN will help).
The exam is interesting in sense there are no or very few dummy answers, so no much deduction is available. The topic for external C procedures (is what I was afraid most of all, as I didn’t manage to configure my home listener by then and test it a lot enough to prepare) had very few questions. Be cautious, passing this exam. A lot of questions require the sample code review in 2 child windows. Those windows sizing also takes the time, by the way.
Good luck! and wait your comments after passing

165 questions in 180 minutes. Production exam requirements: time – 90 min, questions – 68. There is a difference, is not it?
—
It is not :)
90*2 – 136 question
165-136 = 29 question
so only 14 questions more (1/5 of all for production exam).
You exaggerate a little :)

@Lechu Wałęsa,
ok :)
First of all why are you dividing into two? :) 29 is two hours difference.. 14 – is one hour difference. Is this difference not big enough for only one hour? :) you have only 45 questions for one hour in production exam. So it’s 1/3 of a production exam. You have 80 seconds for a question in production and 65 seconds for a question in test.
Secondly, lets say that we have a third type of the exam: 40 questions in one hour. The duration of exam is 8 hours.. You have to solve 320 questions in 8 hours. I can affirm that this type of exam is much easier than a production one regarding to your logics. Is it so? What will you choose if you have to choose? :)

@rdrapeko,
:)
not exactly what i meant
once again then:
“165 questions in 180 minutes. Production exam requirements: time – 90 min, questions – 68. There is a difference, is not it?”
it makes:
beta exam – 180 minutes (3 hours)
production exam – 90 minutes (1.5 h. – twice less)
beta exam – 165 questions
production exam – 68 questions
and now (OK, i know that 3 hours exam is not the same as 1,5 hours exam :)), but:
(1/2)*beta exam time = 90 minutes = production exam
(1/2)*beta exam number of questions = 82.5
production exam number of questions = 68
82-68 = 14 (within 90 minutes)
14/68 ~ 0.2 = 1/5
so you had only 14 questions more during 90 minutes.
You also wrote “I spend only 10-15 second for each of the last 15 questions”.
So I’d like to say that you spent almost the same time (and if we take into account your last sentence – the numbers of questions are comparable) as others have to. Of course it’s only rough comparison (you had 2 productive exams in a row). So generally I don’t agree that production exam is easier as the one you passed. You had twice more questions, twice more chances ;) – on the other hand, you was twice more tired, you had twice more chances to make a mistake.
OK, now the conclusion – I think that your exam was tough as the production exam is. I appreciate your achievement, but I don’t agree that your exam was tougher ;) I think that you exaggerate in that point ;) I don’t like to offend you nor belittle your achievements. You are very good, but, in my opinion, you can discourage people from takeing the beta exam if you write that beta exam is more tough than it really is (in my opinion it is not). Thanks for attention. And congratulations once again :)

sorry, i did some mistakes in my calculations :) but, it does not matter :)
the facts are:
1) 65 seconds for one question in beta exam and 80 seconds for one question in production ===> you have 23% more time for one question in production exam
2) the second reason is the whole time.. it’s 100% longer, and 143% more questions
but i do not want to dispute :) if you take beta exam in the future please share you opinion.. it will be quite interesting :) i also passed SCJP for 1.6 platform exam last year and it was really tougher (but i had been preparing only for one week) than all oracle exams (i also have administrator ocp and sql expert certificates), but this beta exam (i had been preparing for 1.5 month) was really tougher than scjp. :) buuut… it’s my story

@Pankaj,
1. go to http://prometric.com
2. choose Oracle under Information technology (in fact there is no difference what you choose if i’m not mistaken)
3. click ’start’ in ‘get started’ block of new window
4. go to candidate history
5. login and see table of results

hi,
there were no questions tougher than your question is. ;) Most of the questions (95%) required only accurate knowledge. If you know, you mark the right answer. If you don’t, you guess – your logical thinking won’t help you very much. I can not say that this exam was really tough – no.. just learn these slides/comments and you will succeed. When you read, pay attention to the details. If you took SCJP exam, you would probably understand me. For example, if you read about collections just think and test what will be if you don’t initialize it, if you pass invalid parameters etc. I had the biggest problem with the time. I spend only 10-15 second for each of the last 15 questions. But fortunately, you will take a production exam. Look through these slides minutely and you will pass without any problems! Thanks for congratulations and good luck!
